Test Cricket to Return to Pakistan?

Some potentially good news to report out of Pakistan this week.  While in Islamabad on his state visit, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena announced, alongside his Pakistani counterpart, that Sri Lanka will tour Pakistan in the near future.  When exactly is not known at this time.  It would be the first Test tour of Pakistan since the attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in 2009.  It remains to be seen if this future tour will actually come to fruition, but it is a positive first step.

It has been disappointing, albeit understandable, to watch Pakistan play “home” matches at Lord’s and Headingley as well as in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.  The thousands who have shown up abroad to support the Men in Green are only a fraction of the numbers who desire and deserve to see their team play at home again.  Perhaps a return to playing in Pakistan will also improve a side which has struggled of recent.

Here is to hoping that the security situation continues to improve and teams return to touring Pakistan sooner rather than later.
